What are the benefits to have school uniform for my school?

Brief and clear answer

Benefits of School Uniforms

School colours tend to bring out the best in each student!

Each student is an individual with unique qualities, abilities, likes and dis-likes. The implementation of a school uniform or colours policy in no way takes away from a students’ individuality.

School Spirit

Everyone can see that wearing the same uniform or colours brings sports and activity teams together. Exactly the same is observed in a school with a uniform or school colour policy. Students feel they are all on the "same team" and there’s a very real increase in school spirit.

Sense of Belonging

When each student wears the same uniform/colours, that’s a very strong visual influence supporting a sense of belonging. The risk of being alienated over looking different is removed. Uniform clothing amongst students is so effective at making students feel "equal" and "the same" that it easily over-shadows any perceived difference between students with regard to appearance.

Curtailing Peer Pressure

Uniforms usually reduce the competition among students to wear certain (and nearly always expensive) brands of clothing. Over 75% of schools in uniform noted a reduction in peer pressure among their students after adopting a uniform policy.

Bolstering Self-Confidence

Many studies have shown that kids with high self-esteem perform better in school. By eliminating a reason to feel self-conscious, uniforms can help improve children’s self-confidence and may lead to greate class participation.

Improving the Learning Environment

Teachers surveyed say that uniforms promote a down-to-business approach. Kids view uniforms as work clothes and take school more seriously. 52% of pricipals surveyed said that uniforms has a positive effect on student achievement.

Classroom Discipline Improves

Almost 80% of schools with uniforms say classroom discipline has improved. Uniforms promote good behaviour and provide an improved environment for learning.

Keeping Students Safer

In those schools where gang-type activity is found in and around the school yard, school uniforms remove the visual influence of "gang colours" within the student body. Students are not at risk of being robbed of their "expensive" or "trendy" clothing. And perhaps the greatest benefit is that persons who do not belong to the school are easily spotted on school grounds! Do uniforms keep kids safer? 75% of schools with uniforms say yes.

Easing Parental Stress

We probably don’t have to say much here. Each parent knows what happens in the morning during the ritual of choosing clothes for the day. The elimination of stress about "what to wear" and the delays it creates in getting ready in the morning are always at the top of the list when parents are asked how school uniforms make life easier for them.

How to Choose school uniform size for my kid?

Finding the right size uniform for your growing children can be difficult. When will they grow out of it? Did they go up a size? What if it doesn’t fit? We have put together a helpful uniform buying guide to help you understand how to choose the right size.

How to correctly measure your children

Not sure where to start? Follow these easy tips to make measuring up a walk in the park. To keep it simple, we will start from the top and work our way down. Make sure to note down each measurement, so you know exactly what you should buy when you shop.

  1. Height: Start by having your child stand barefooted with their back to a wall. It is important for your child to stand up straight so you can get the most accurate measurement possible. Now measure from the top of their head to the ground and write this measurement down.
  2. Collar: Place the measuring tape around your child’s neck ensuring nothing is in the way. Do not wrap the tape too tightly as you want to have some wiggle room around the neck.
  3. Chest: Place the measuring tape under your child’s arms and around the thickest part of their chest. Make sure no other clothing, like a jumper or hoodie, are in the way as they will cause the measurements to be incorrect.
  4. Waist: Now measure your child’s natural waistline. A good reference point for finding the right spot is starting at the belly button. Again, make sure the tape measure isn’t too tight.
  5. Hips: Measure around the widest part of their hips and bottom, keeping the tape measure level all the way around.
  6. Inside Leg: For this step, your child will need to wear shoes and stand up straight. Place one end of the tape measure at the top of the inseam and measure straight down to around 5cm from the ground.

Uniform Buying Tips

  1. Have your child’s recent measurements at the ready.

  2. Check the school uniform requirements of your child’s school.

  3. Sew name tags into your child’s clothes so they can be found in the lost property if they go missing.

  4. Order early! Don’t leave it until the last minute, as retailers might not have stock of the correct uniform or sizing.

  5. Allow room for your child to grow. Buying a tight-fitting uniform means you will have to buy uniforms more frequently.

  6. If your child is in between sizes, look at buying trousers with an elastic waistband so they can grow with their trousers.

  7. Invest in good quality school clothes as this way they will last longer and can even be donated, sold or passed down to siblings/friends.

To remedy this, we've compiled a succinct reference guide, "How to Care for Formal Girls Dresses," ensuring you can uphold the elegance of your cherished formal dress. Our goal is to assist you in preserving its charm and beauty throughout its tenure in your little girl's life, ensuring it's passed down in optimal condition. Here are four fundamental steps to bear in mind when tending to your little girl's new formal dress.

  1. Steam it: Upon the dress's delivery, promptly extricate it from its packaging and rejuvenate it with a clothing steamer. This step is particularly crucial for dresses with tulle fabric. Employ a standard clothing steamer to eliminate wrinkles and restore the dress's fluffiness.

  2. Hang it: Whenever the dress is not being worn, ensure it's hung up. Utilize padded hangers to avoid any potential snags, steering clear of wire hangers or others that might compromise the dress's integrity.

  3. Dry Clean it: Under no circumstances should you subject your formal dress to machine washing unless the tag explicitly permits it. Opt for dry cleaning as the preferred method post-use. Identify a trustworthy, eco-friendly dry cleaner to safeguard your little one from harmful chemicals.

  4. Store it: When the time comes to stow away your formal dress, opt for a garment bag free from plastic. Plastic can trap humidity, potentially leading to stains on the dress. Store the dress in a cool, dark, and dry location to preserve its color and prevent moisture-induced blemishes.
